This site is dedicated to modifications to the VirtueMart cart software for the Joomla cms. I have written many modifications some of which will be included in the next generation of VirtueMart. Promoted here will be a showcase of those modifications and a place to ask for help. The VirtueMart forum has become to large to administer making it difficult for users to find answers. Here you will have full installation instructions, working examples of the modifications, instructions as to use and of course the forum. Hopefully a more pleasant experience all round.
At the present time all modifications are available for free, but in the future some of the mods may have a nominal charge. This all depends on the amount of development time taken and is just to cover my costs. I hope you don't mind paying £5 - £10 for a complex mod that is going to save you money and work in the long run.

At the moment there are no plans for any mods for VM1.1, bribery won't change this either. I personally do not have the time or inclination to do any!
User Registration
I am no longer accepting user registrations via the front page of the site. Any new user is required to email me with their contact details. I will not accept gmail, yahoo or hotmail accounts. Accounts ending in ru will not be granted access either, unless they can convince me that they are a legitimate user.
Sorry, but I am tired of all the fake registrations. The easiest way to combat this was to remove it.

 A product types are very handy, they are away of adding extra data to your VM catalogue that are not covered by the internal structure. They can also be used for advanced searching. E.g. you could set up a product type that has car makes and models. If you also selct a set of default values you can do a search usng dropdown boxes. Not intelligent in that it nows that Make A as models x,y & z but useful none the less. The only problem with product_types is that they display in a grid with each label displayed then the value and units (If specified)!

Child Products - What are they and how do I set them up?
What are child products? This is often asked and more importantly, how do I create them? So what are child products? Child products belong to a parent product. The parent product can never be bought, it is just a container for a product e.g. You have a product that can be bought as a physical product and a downloadable product (Such as an audio CD).
Using normal products you would then have 2 duplicate products, essentially the same, the only difference; one is downloadable the other is physically delivered. So in your browse page you would have 2 products the same. Using child products, you would create a a parent product which has all the relevant information and images. You would then create 2 child products. The first being a physical product with a price of say $10, then you would create a second child product. This would also have a downloable file associated and a price of $5. So when the customer now selects the parent product, they will have 2 choices. 1 buy the physical product pay for shipping and await delivery or buy the downloadable product finish the checkout and recieve a download link.
This is just one example. The next section I will explain how to set up child products.

 This modification is still in the planning stage and I will update as each stage is completed.
This will be a large mod which will alter the administrator menus to add the new advanced discount system. This discount system will allow category based discounts as well as multiple product discounts e.g. Buy 1 get 1 1/2 price or buy 2 get 1 free etc.
I also plan to alter the childlist mod to allow the qualifying products to be purchased at the same time with no setup from the store owner.

 I Have seen Several requests for this on the VirtueMart forum, why people want it; I really don't know. If a user does not register they cannot check their orders and if they return they have to fill in all their details again. It also means downloads won't work, the download ID is linked to the user and the download file.
This mod will allow you to chekout without registering, the points above should be taken into consideration. All user details are retained for order management and deleted once the order is deleted.
If you do have registered users, they too will have to fill in their details the first time they checkout. It will then be stored for the next use and they will go straight to checkout if they are logged in.
Works in all configurations i.e. silent registration, require account activation, require unique emails etc.
Obviously the more donations I receive, the faster the release. We all need incentives sometimes and if you are making money by using my modifications, please share the good fortune.

 This mod will enable you to automatically bypass the shipping part of VirtueMart if you only have downloadable products in your cart.
This is ideal for those stores that sell both physical and virtual products. i.e. If you have a product that needs to be shipped and the shopper has also bought a downloadable product, the shipping stage will be displayed. If they only have downloadable products it will be skipped. If during the checkout stage a user deletes all physical products it will automatically skip the shipping section too.
Also for those of you with free products i.e. you have set the price to 0.00. This will bypass the payment process and automatically send you the download ID.

This is a very complex modification that changes the appearance of child products. In the normal VirtueMart Install child products are displayed with a dropdown select box. There are some instances when you reuire more than 1 product to be added at a time or rather than redisplaying the pages just have a method of adding whichever variant you wish without reloading the page. This is the new and improved version, there are some slight changes in the flypage setup but this will open the zoomed image on the currently displayed image.
This mod has only 1 modified file and needs no alterations to your sites template file, it also includes the relevant js files. Which are mootools and slimbox.
You can see the mod working here and this should explain what it does. It allows you to have swappable images and lightbox functionality.

This is a replacement for VirtueMarts Mini Cart. This is more configurable and will actually display the items that are in the cart. For a demonstration just go to the store and add anything to the cart. You will see the results immidiately.
